Before You Visit A French Bulldog Breeder WA

By Jerry Long

Nowadays quite a lot of people are getting dogs as pets, and many are getting French bulldogs as their companion of choice. Perhaps it also has tickled your fancy to get this kind of dog and as you are now living in Seattle WA you are now raring to visit the nearest French bulldog breeder WA. However, prior to buying a puppy, do read on in this article for some information that you may find useful in making your final decision and commitment.

The frenchie as it is popularly called is much smaller than its cousin the English bulldog. It has a more compact and fairly rotund body complemented by smaller and shorter legs. It also has a more bat like appearance when seen from the front due to its perennially erect ears.

Being of a smaller size the frenchie is naturally designed for small house living, so it is a boon for small apartment and condominium dwellers. It does have a bit of energy, most owners saying it will have an energy rating of around medium. Despite this fairly notable level of energy it is also quite content to go long periods without any activity much like its English counterpart. However, it is recommended that you do give it at least a 30 minute walk outside everyday for it to dissipate pent up restlessness and such.

As this breed possesses a compact airway that is coupled with a pug nose, it will have the peculiar inability to regulate its internal body temperature. This basically means that it will have a hard time to keep its internal body core at a constant temperature in extreme temperatures, which are present in extreme climates like sub arctic and tropical climes. Thus it is best that you keep this dog if you yourself live in a temperate region. Extreme temperatures have been known to be deadly for this dog.

In terms of lifespan it is quite short lived in terms of years, averaging only about 8 to 10 years. However, with the proper care and maintenance plus nutrition advice from you vet, you make be able to eke out a few more years. Also take note that as it ages, it will develop eye cataracts that you must attend to immediately.

When you do decide to get one prepare to give it a lot of attention or it will perform the French death yodel. It is a long ululating sound that is quite eerie to listen to, and the dog produces this when it feels that it is not getting all the attention it needs. Many owners will say that it demands 1000 percent of your attention all of the time so be prepared to give it all the care and love that you can muster.

It is a breed that lacks the alpha male behavior seen in the English bulldog, that is to say that it is not a bully, no pun intended. It can live quite well along with other animals and is safe to keep with children for it exhibits a maternal instinct for those it cares for.

When you do visit any breeders do make an ocular inspection of their facilities and see how they treat the animals under their care. Gauge through casual conversation and polite questioning whether they really care for the animals as dog breeders or they are just in it to make a quick buck. Remember that buying from puppy mills may yield you a less than optimally healthy dog.
