Sensible And Simple Ideas For Preventing Food Allergies In Children

By Donna Taylor

It seems like all kids have allergies these days. These were almost unheard of a century ago, and a lot of parents want to know why. There are plenty of theories. Some believe the culprits are modern medicine and the environment. Others point out the problems that industrialization introduced. The arguments will continue, and in the meantime, parents want solutions for preventing food allergies in children.

Prevention has to start before your child is even conceived. When you decide to get pregnant, you have to take a hard look at your diet. If it includes processed foods and products that were contaminated with chemicals and toxins in the field, you have to completely change the way you eat. You need to do this six months or more before you get pregnant. Once you've become pregnant, you must be extra vigilant. Your child is being nourished by the foods you put in your body.

If you are able, and open to, breastfeeding, this is a wonderful way to start your baby off on a life without allergies. Breast milk is full of healthy fats and probiotics. New mothers who aren't breastfeeding, need to consider making their own formula. Commercial formulas, even the organic ones, contain sugar and processed ingredients.

When your baby is ready to eat solid foods, you need to offer real foods, the kind your ancestors offered their babies. Those foods were not sprayed with chemicals and toxins. You don't want to offer your little one processed foods either. This includes rice cereal. Processed foods don't have the nutrients your baby's brain needs to develop properly. Making your own foods is a much better idea.

Most parents are scared to death of germs. They wipe down everything before their child touches it. A sensible amount of this is fine, but many go overboard. Kids need to be exposed to natural bacteria. It gives their immune systems a chance to develop and create resistance. Babies exposed to a large amount of antibiotics can develop food allergies.

Many experts believe young children should not be exposed to foods grown with genetically modified organisms, or GMOs. The thought process behind GMOs is sensible. They make plants more insect and disease resistant and make produce longer lasting. They are also thought to cause inflammation and allergies. A lot of formulas and baby foods contain GMOs. The way to avoid the problem is to buy one hundred percent organic foods with a USDA organic seal.

A lot of new parents, who wouldn't dream of giving their babies anything but organic foods, don't think anything about feeding them unfiltered water. Unfiltered water can be full of toxins, chemicals, and plastic. A baby's body has to work hard to detoxify this water. Baby water should be pure and cleansing.

Most new parents have their baby's best interest at heart. It can be hard to sift through conflicting information to find out what that is. One of the best ways to decide is to stop and consider whether or not the foods you are giving your child would have been recognizable to your ancestors.
