By Margaret Adams

The best learning institutions all over have one obligation which is to ensure that their student can learn. There are many areas of learning that have been ensured to be perfect so that the student can achieve this. The significance of professional development for teachers has however been shelved out in most cases though it is the most important since a good teacher makes a great learner.

It is not in the minds of many including those on top of the education sector that learning will never be effective if it is not from a students personal motivation. The teacher being the center of this entire institution is the one in a position who can make the student enjoy learning. However, it is only those who have enhanced their professionalism who can be able to make this happen.

This mode of enhancing ones professionalism is something that can be done even as you are attending to your daily duties. To begin with, most new teachers resign from this job in less than five years in the profession a study has indicated. This is attributed to the lack of a proper induction. These new educators lack the experience hence it is important that they have a personal mentor to guide in enhancing their skills.

Such an induction gives the teacher some confidence and also additional mastering of the content from their peers who act as their mentors. Additionally, it allows one to get important skills on how to deal with a particular group of students in the institution they have been posted on especially in schools with demanding students.

It is accepted that the lifestyle back at home will have a bearing on the students class performance. This is a fact that requires not argument. However, new studies have indicated that educators with enhanced professionalism are well equipped to ensure that student can excel even if they have a very disturbing life back at home.

The curriculum will always detect what is being taught in class. However, of late there have been numerous changes in this curriculum making it a bit challenging to the teachers to keep up with it because of the frequency of the changes. However, some development programs have the potential of ensuring that the teacher is equipped with all the changes and how they can be instilled to the learners.

Making learning inviting for the learners to enjoy falls in the docket of the staff, however, there are no defined methods of making this possible except this session which gives them skills of using bringing in new things in the class including technology tools making learning captivating.

It is evident that learning will always be defined by the teachers available. The management of institutions should refrain from focusing on aspects of education that are not important and switch to focusing on bettering the skills and experience of their staff.
