Whenever your joint feels achy, taking over the counter painkillers is not the best remedy. Relying on them all the time and at high doses can be risky. Most of the time, what you can do instead is go to the kitchen because in there you will come across two of the best remedies, and they're ginger and turmeric. Read on to know how these culinary spices can be employed for arthritis relief Santa Cruz locals may give a try.

It doesn't really matter if you prefer ginger over turmeric or the other way around. It's for the fact that they are both very good at reducing pain and inflammation. Such doesn't really come as a surprise because these two are actually related to one another. Their insides may not look the same color wise, but they belong to the same family.

The truth is there are lots of topically applied creams and ointments for arthritis that have ingredients extracted from ginger and turmeric. In ginger's case, it is called gingerol. Capsaicin is the name of that which is derived from turmeric. Gingerol and capsaicin are basically the same kinds of chemicals, and both of them can provide results. So in other words, it's perfectly fine which of the two you go for.

The good news is there's no need for you to get exhausted looking for creams and gels with gingerol or capsaicin in them. What you may do is simply obtain them straight from ginger and turmeric, their easily accessible sources. You need not worry so much over your inflamed and painful joints if you have any of these cooking spices in the kitchen.

If you want to take advantage of the pain and inflammation relieving properties of ginger, all you have to do is turn it into a cup of tea. Such is done by grating a small piece of fresh ginger root. Place a teaspoon of it in a cup of hot water and allow 4 to 5 minutes to pass. Afterwards, carefully remove the grated ginger root using a teaspoon. You may add a teaspoon of honey or freshly squeezed lemon juice to your freshly brewed cup of ginger tea.

You may also put a small piece of peeled ginger root inside your mouth a few times a day. Let ginger root's juice combine with your saliva. Opting for this simple home remedy lets your body obtain a steady dose of gingerol, thus allowing you to get much needed respite from joint pain and swelling without popping any OTC painkiller in your mouth.

Turmeric is readily available powdered. It only means that it's a lot easier to convert into tea than fresh ginger root. All you have to do is stir a teaspoon of it into a cup of hot water and then you may begin to consume it. Go ahead and add a teaspoon of lemon juice or honey to it to make it taste appetizing.

It's also possible to turn turmeric into a topical solution for arthritis. Add one drop of water to a small amount of it at a time until you come up with a paste. Massage the paste on the affected joint and leave it there to dry. This home remedy may be performed up to 3 times a day for best results.
