By Ann Anderson

A smile can take you places and it even acquires you new relations. For you to be able to smile confidently, you need to take care of your dental hygiene. There are various dental problems that hinder one from showing off their smile and one of them being discolored teeth. With dental composite brushes, your dentist can reverse all this. However, there are a few facts you need to know about tooth discoloration.

Not all dental discolorations are the same. They are mainly divided into 3 categories. First there is extrinsic discoloration. Just as the name hints, it is the type that affects the external of the teeth. When the outer or rather the enamel is discolored, it is said to be caused by foods that one partakes. Not all foods and drinks discolor the enamel but things like coffee, cola and habits like smoking discolor the enamel.

When one is young, they are bound to be affected by the second kind of discoloration which is known as the intrinsic discoloration. This is when the inner tooth, which is the dentin, gets discolored. When the dentin is discolored, it easily shows via the enamel. When, at a tender age, a child traumatizes the tooth, intakes anything with a lot of fluoride, partaking tetracycline antibiotics or the mum when pregnant or is born with dentin genesis, the inner tooth has a possibility of being discolored.

With age, teeth tend to get discolored as a result of both extrinsic and intrinsic discoloration. As one gets old, the enamel gets thinner with time showing off the dentin. Certain foods and smoking are also culprits of discolored teeth as one advance in age.

Signs and symptoms of discolored teeth are very straight forward. If you see or happen to have any other color like dark, yellow or white spots, then those are the obvious signs of discolored teeth. Once you go to the dentist, all it takes is a look at the dentist will have the best solution laid out for you.

When it comes to treatment, there are three methods you can use to achieve your desired results. One there is in office treatment. This is the most effective needless to say the fastest. Here, all you need is to walk in, then your dentist will apply a bleaching paste then you will walk out after approximately 45 minute with the biggest smile there is. However, follow up visits are necessary.

If the first treatment method is not good or convenient for you, there are two other methods you can choose from. The first is asking your dentist to give you age and mouth guard where you can carry out the treatment at home. Alternatively, you can go and buy teeth bleaching products without a prescription and use them at home. These two methods are not as efficient as the in-office one but they are a little bit cheaper.

Above all, even with solutions to whiten your discolored teeth, taking care that they do not get discolored in the first place is very important. Fore warned is fore armed so take all the necessary precautions and know all there is to know in preventing discoloration. For instance, make sure you brush after meals and more importantly after in taking anything that causes teeth discoloration.
