Bloodletting And Such With Phlebotomy Classes

By Jeffrey White

All things are made up of smaller things. Countries are made of states or provinces, those states or provinces are made of cities, those cities are made of neighborhoods. But all those things, at their core, are made of cells, and those cells are composed of atoms. The human body is no different, it is made of a system of interconnected components, and connecting them all is the blood. It contains so much information about the overall health of the whole that sometimes it has to be extracted in order to see what the information actually is. The people who do the extracting generally take phlebotomy classes in some form or another.

Phlebotomy is the process of drawing blood. In the process, what is done is puncturing a vein with a needle in order to draw out the material. While there are dedicated phlebotomists, most practitioners are healthcare professionals who picked up the skill as part of their comprehensive medical training.

A lot of information about how healthy a body is can be gleaned from the red stuff in the veins. Glucose levels, cholesterol, uric acid levels, all of it incredibly important to health and wellness. All of that information is present in the plasma. People also have different blood types, and in transfusion, the correct type has to be put in otherwise the patient can reject the transfusion.

Now, in the process, there are a few tools that are needed. The first is the needle, to actually do the bloodletting. Another common item is a rubber tourniquet. Finally, some places will provide cotton swabs to put over the incision afterwards.

Classes are easy enough to come by. Most colleges and universities will offer a class in which the student is trained in phlebotomy. The problem is that the art is taught as an ancillary but also extremely necessary skill in other classes, not as a dedicated course.

Almost every person who works in the medical field has some degree of skill in phlebotomy because it is one of the most basic and most used skills in the actual practice of healthcare. Most modern day phlebotomists are actually healthcare professionals who picked up the skill as part of their training. There are still some dedicated phlebotomists out there, but the demand for them has waned considerably since most lab techs, nurses, and doctors are able to perform the procedure.

A small but significant portion of the adult human body is composed of blood, around eight percent. Now, blood is very important, because it is what transports oxygen and nutrients to the appropriate places. It is also warm and flowing under the skin makes the skin warm to the touch.

Staying healthy and regulated is extremely important to a person. An imbalance in one aspect can throw the whole thing into chaos. As such, it is important to have all the information necessary in order to maintain an internal equilibrium.

Human bodies do not last forever. At some point, it will expire and turn to dust. But life can be extended, not just with advancements in medical technology, but also with ancient practices.
