Effective Vitamins For Brain Injury

By Karen Hall

Depends on what type of external or internal force that impacts a brain, it could damage the mind in a lot of different ways. The effect could either be one a one particular side of the brain or the totality of it. Studies were made to improve the functionality of the mind through various vitamins for brain injury.

There are two types of brain injuries identified, first is called TBI or Traumatic Brain Injury. It usually is a result from an aggressive blow or bump to the body or head from an external mechanical force. The outcome of this could result to possible permanent or partial impairment of physical, psychosocial and cognitive functions associated with changed state of consciousness.

The occurrences considered to be a traumatic brain injury include contusion, concussion, axonal diffusion, penetration and countercoup. When your brain is traumatized due to an aggressive effect from an external source or a sudden change of movement, it would result to a concussion. Contusion is when bleeding or bruises occur in your mind.

A count countercoup happens when there are bruises found on the brain on its both sides. A diffuse axonal is when a powerful shaking or rotation of a head has been made causing the tissues of the nerve to tear which results to permanent or partial injury. Penetration means when an object or other materials has made a hard blow into it such as knife, bullet or other sharp materials.

Researchers coming from the University of Southern Illinois made a study regarding what provides nutritional value that enhances TBI therapies. It was found out that minerals and vitamins D, E, C, B9, B2 and B3 contains the highest amount of supplemental factor. Nicotinic acids, Omega 3 fatty acids and magnesium from the foods you intake has the most potential treatment for TBI.

The next type of injury is called Acquired Brain Injury. These are results from damages caused by tumors, stroke, hypoxia, toxins, degenerative diseases, and other conditions not entirely caused by an external force. The effect of this type could affect some parts of your brain.

When a brain is lacking completely of oxygen flow in a head, Anoxia takes place. There are three various kinds of anoxia that may take place. First is anoxic, it is when it has not received any supply of air. Second is termed as anemic, when there is no sufficient blood carried in to the head. And last, toxic, when several metabolites or toxins hinder the passage of air to the head.

A hypoxic injury takes place when the brain receives not enough oxygen. Hypoxic Ischemic Injury or Stagnant Hypoxia comes in due to lack of blood flow in the mind. Stroke, on the other hand, is caused by a blocked artery that leaks or bursts the blood vessel.

Another good source for a healthy mind is Vitamin D. According from Current Drug Targets, this sort of vitamin protects the bones, muscles and mind from any harmful microbes in the body. Niacin also helps improve brain function of a stroke survivor. Another good foundation for a healthy mind is EPA and DHA that are found in fish oils.
